| October 19 – 31 Vienna celebrates the largest Austrian film festival, Viennale, which will involve several venues around the city (including Gartenbaukino, Künstlerhaus Kino, Urania etc.). Viennale will feature many premiers, retrospectives and discussions on cinema topics, so if you are a cinema lover – don’t miss it! The aim is not to compete (even though some prizes will be awarded), but to acquaint the general public with both classic films and contemporary tendencies in the industry. The festival programme will include up to 200 movies, from feature films to documentaries and shorts. The festival was founded in 1960 and since that time premiered such movies as Truffaut's first film, Les quatre cents coups, and Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress. |
